| Duck is the most expensive player in history contracted by Brazilian clubs |
Officially announced by the Corinthians late in the afternoon of Thursday, the attacker Alexandre Duck, former Milan player, is the most expensive purchase ever made by a Brazilian club in history. The value, EUR 15 million (R$ 40.5 million), beats Timão's own records, which had Top 3 in the ranking: Carlitos Tévez, Nilmar and Mascherano, all guaranteed with MSI group money between 2005 and 2006.
The amount paid by the board of Corinthians to ensure Duck for four seasons surpasses in R$ 7.5 million that businessman Kia Joorabchian paid for Tévez. For Argentine football, the Iranian disbursed US$ 22 million, approximately R$ 33 million, at the time exchange, for Boca Juniors. If today's values were considered, Tévez would overcome Duck in less than R$ Five million.
Nilmar and Mascherano were acquired from Lyon and River Plate by R$ 27,8 and R$ 25 million, respectively. In 2011, by R$ 14 million, Timão had also taken the middle-fielder Alex from Spartak Moscow, Russia, in the 15th most expensive purchase of Brazilian football. All these contracts are part of a process of changing directions of Brazilian football, which ceased to be mere ‘exporter’ of talents and began to invest in reinforcements. Based on a first moment of MSI money and now on own resources, Timon is one of the pioneers at this new time.
03/01/2013 is the day of big transactions – Besides Duck, one more player entered the Top 10 of most expensive players ever bought by Brazilian clubs in history, this Wednesday. Sold by the Cruise to Santos by R$ 16 million (unofficial values), the Argentine half Montillo would take the ninth place of the list, which has Thiago Neves in front of him and Oscar, sold by São Paulo to Inter, in the tenth position.
