The Sport Club Corinthians Paulista will have one of the largest MMA names on the planet for at least two more years. On Thursday (10), President Mário Gobbi Filho signed the renewal of the contract of Júnior Gigano, who will seek to resume the heavyweight belt of the UFC (main competition of the modality in the world) still this October.

‘Renewal of contract with Gypsy Junior for two years shows that the MMA project in Corinthians is long-term. The club believes in the strength that the sport currently has, as well as the enormous growth potential that we see ahead’, commented João Guilherme de Oliveira, MMA Manager of Corinthians. ‘Junior Gypsy is one of the main names of the MMA on the planet and it is an honor to continue having the athlete on our team and exposing the brand of the Corinthians’, completed João.

On October 19, in Houston, United States, Junior Gypsy will face American Cain Velasquez in the heavyweight title match. The match is part of the main card of UFC 166. After preparation that also had the team of Corinthians technical, the Brazilian fighter is already in the city that will receive the confrontation.

The MMA team of Sport Club Corinthians Paulista has more than 20 athletes and an international training pattern structure, located within the club's academy, in São Jorge Park. By the end of the year, in addition to the fight of Junior Gypsy, Timão fighters will perform seven fights, three of which are outside Brazil – one in Ecuador and two in Mexico.
