Mano Menezes left his last job in Flamengo, saying he could not pass on to the athletes what he thought about football in the four months of work. The statement pursues the coach – who insists on clarifying it frequently, denying that he has questioned the cognitive capacity of the red-black group – and returned to the surface after the victory suffered for the Corinthians for Santos.
The 5–1 loss was only the fourth match in the season, which is still in its first month. But the questions have already arisen if the alvinegro players, so accustomed to Tite's ideas in three years of many achievements, are having difficulty assimilating the new plans. The board says they've foreseen the issue, but they expect everything to be quickly overtaken.
‘Because it was the beginning of the season, the beginning of a new philosophy, with a new game system, we expected some difficulty. But we didn't expect a result like what we had, a big, unpleasant surprise. Let this pass as soon as possible, that the teacher and the cast can give an answer against Ponte, giving confidence to everyone’, said the football manager Edu Gaspar, referring to next Sunday’s game.
‘New ideas are being put on for athletes, and you need some time. But Corinthians is a special club, we know well, we don't have much time to adapt. We are very attentive to organize these details as soon as possible to follow the path we expect,’ added the leader.
‘I was very happy with the premiere we made, I thought the athletes quickly understood what was gone by Mano. Then we played a good game against Paulista (victory 1 to 0), a not so positive against São Bernardo (lose 1 to 0) and the past game, which is without comment. I hope they can understand and that Professor Mano can pass everything in the best way possible’, concluded the leader.
