You know the title hero, the team star? He doesn't surrender anymore, and everyone in the club believes he needs to leave so everything goes back to normal. Only that past success gave the idol a fat salary and today it seems that no one is willing to play it. The club could push and release him, but this star is still one of the coach's few options, which doesn't have a great cast. The problem is, to hire, the board needs to get rid of the veteran, the protagonist of the story.
That is the vicious circle that today holds Emerson in the Corinthians. And the attacker isn't the only one living this situation at the São Jorge Park Club. From Alexander Duck to Ibson and Douglas to Julio Cesar, inflation created by the 2012 titles became the biggest villain of the current Corinthians, who suffers to change his face and react.
Emerson is one of the highest salaries in the cast, earning about R$ 500 thousand monthly and with contract until July 2015. Since the end of last year, club leaders have been twisting their noses at the player, who has a history of indiscipline and is not yielding well in the field. Losing the author of the two goals of the Corinthians in the final Liberators is no longer a problem for the cartoons, therefore, months ago, and the financial planning of 2014 even included this exit.
Problem is, it's hard to fit Emerson into the market. So far, no one has really taken an interest in the attacker, except for a ‘dating’ with the Atlético-MG and involving a possible exchange for André, but who has sunk. The high salary is prohibitive for most teams and the past of controversy does not help.
Sheik's not the first to go through that. Before closing with São Paulo, Alexandre Pato was offered to at least three clubs, and none of them met the costs involved the former player of Milan. To send it to Morumbi's rival, the Corinthians topped up to pay 50% of the player's salary, as he also did with Douglas, loaned to Vasco.
With Emerson, that's still not possible. Today, Mano has only four attack options already minimally tested: Guerrero, Sheik, Romarinho and Luciano. The situation is so difficult that, with the first two injured, the technician promoted the rise of Malcom, 17 years old, to the main team.
Losing Emerson would mean further reducing an already tiny cast. This need in position was already decisive for the Corinthians to have renewed the attacker's contract last year. In 2013, the only reinforcement for the sector was Alexandre Pato, and Tite passed the final line of the Brazilian Championship improvising Renato Augusto as a center forward when his first options failed.
Last weekend, Emerson was not related to the match against Atlético Sorocaba and speculations about the player's future increased. He was in pain in the calf, did not play the previous week against the Penapolense and was left one more game away, even if already recovered.
It wasn't the first time this happened under the management of Mano Menezes. The coach argues that more days of training before return leave athletes with rhythm of play, which facilitates the entry into a team that is still in formation. Before Sheik, Guerrero, Renato Augusto and Fábio Santos lived in similar situations.
Emerson gave signs of dissatisfaction, but his stafe says he only thinks about fulfilling the contract. The Corinthians also denies any friction and stresses that the player was always used by Mano when he was available. The need to have the attacker in the field would therefore remain an obstacle to the Sheik's exit.
