The German magazine Kicker released a special on the biggest football teams of all time, and ranked itself. The publication gathered data, images and stories from each of the members of the select group, and drew attention to the shy presence of non-European squadrons. In all, only eight teams from outside the Old Continent entered the Kicker list, seven South American teams and one African team.
Among the first places, no surprises: Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Liverpool and Barcelona lead. But the full domain of Europeans has drawn attention. Only seven South American teams are on the list, and names such as Botafogo, National (URU) and Independiente-ARG – the largest Liberator champion – are missing and lost to Al Ahly, from Egypt.
The only non-European standing in the world football elite is Boca Juniors, which appears in eighth. A team from outside Europe is only seen in the relationship from the 29th position, when Santos, Flamengo, Corinthians, River Plate, Peñarol and Millionarios (COL) appear.
