| Zizao was hired by Corinthians in 2012 | Disclosure |
After two seasons of Zizao's hiring, Corinthians is about to enter into another partnership with Chinese, this time with a local club. The contract – which must be signed in the pause of the Brazilian calendar for the World Cup – provides for an exchange between Chinese and Brazilian athletes, especially in Olympic sports.
‘We export football and import sports in which they are good. I can tell you that there will be exchange mainly in swimming – a sport in which China and Corinthians are very strong’, said the marketing manager of Corinthians, Alexandre Ferreira, in an exclusive interview to the report.
The partnership does not necessarily provide for the hiring of a Chinese player by Corinthians, but the marketing manager said the subject will be discussed in future.
‘Open the possibility of exchanging players, but it is much more on their part than ours. They want to qualify, learn training techniques... It is an exchange of technical commission, administration and marketing. But it's a two-way street. There's the possibility of a Chinese player coming here, but that has to be discussed with the technical committee. This cannot be imposed on football’, he said.
In Ferreira's opinion, the possible hiring of a Chinese should prioritize the defensive sector, so that we do not repeat what happened to Zizao, marketing success, but rarely used in the team.
‘I wasn’t at the club when Zizao came (in 2012). The problem was that he was an attacker, and at that moment the Corinthians had many attack players. I believe if Corinthians had brought in a defense player, the chance for him to play the games would have been greater. We will talk to Mano (Menezes), understand what he thinks and eventually suggest a more defensive player’.
