Rome announced on Thursday that the quarterback Leandro Castán will undergo brain surgery next month to correct a malformation.
The Brazilian player, former Corinthians, has not acted since September 13, when he left the duel against Empoli in the interval because of dizziness. Some media in Italy even speculated that the defender had cancer, which was soon discarded.
According to the Italian capital club, 28-year-old Leandro Castán underwent an MRI scan that found a cavernoma, a problem of vascular malformation on the left side of the player's brain.
Recurrent dizziness in the quarterback was caused by bruising and swelling in his head, which could even lead to a hemorrhage.
The Brazilian surgery will take place at the beginning of December, and Rome, in the official statement, ensured that dizziness will end a few days later. "The problem does not pose a threat to the player's life," the capital team explained.
There is still no forecast for Castán to return to the lawns.
