A total change can happen in football in the Americas. That's because Italian businessman Riccardo Silva owns Miami FC, a club in the second division of the United States, wants to join Conmebol with Concacaf and do one championship. According to him, the Champions League of the Americas would compete equally with the famous Champions of Europe, and would make the clubs collect much more, with big awards and top-notch organization.
Riccardo's idea is to bring together clubs from the USA, Mexico, Brazil and all the majors of the Americas. He explains how it would be done and how the collection would be much larger than today.
"It would be something of $5 million$ 17 mi) for each participating club and 30 mio (R$ 105 mi) for the winner," he said. In the last season, UCLA paid 12 million euros (R$ 46 mi) to each team that reached the group stage, with additionals as the team advanced in the tournament – the winner added to the base value plus 15 million euros (R$ 58 mi), explains.
He was asked about the great distances from one country to another, as America is much larger than Europe. According to him, each club would do three intercontinental matches at most.
" We are starting with this idea, and we think it will be feasible," he said. "This will probably take some time, which is not a problem, because it lets us do everything better and more carefully," he said, explaining that there is no deadline for putting the project into practice.
