O técnico Tiago Nunes pediu e o Corinthians foi atrás do zagueiro Marcelo, do Lyon-FRA. O defensor de 32 recusou a ideia de voltar ao futebol brasileiro. Com contrato até junho de 2021 na França, ele espera permanecer no velho continente até o fim do vínculo.
Ainda de acordo com a publicação do UOL Sport, o zagueiro sentiu-se orgulhoso de ter o futebol reconhecido pelo Corinthians, mas preferiu encerrar as conversas logo no início. O zagueiro foi revelado no Santos.
Para 2020, o novo comandante alvinegro tem à disposição os seguintes defensores: Gil, Léo Santos, Pedro Henrique, Bruno Médez e Marllon.
