On January 14, 2000, Corinthians wrote an epic chapter in their history by winning the FIFA Club World Cup for the first time. The alvinegro club, the national champion of Brazil in 1998 and 1999, was not invited by FIFA, but the representative of the host country.
The memorable journey culminated in an exciting penalty match against Vasco da Gama, after a goalless draw in normal time. Maracanã stadium was the scene of a vibrant atmosphere, with over 70,000 fans present, including the passionate Corinthian fans who made the second Corinthian invasion of Rio de Janeiro.
Coach Oswaldo de Oliveira led the São Jorge Park team at this historic moment, climbing a team determined to leave its mark. The initial formation included Dida in the goal; Indio, Adilson, Fábio Luciano and Kléber in the defense; Vampeta, Rincón, Marcelinho and Ricardinho in the midfield; and Edilson and Luizão as attackers.
The group phase included a marked victory over Real Madrid, preparing the ground for the decision against Vasco. In the penalty, the Corinthians showed nerves of steel by winning 4 to 3, thus sealing their position as world champion and eternalizing this achievement in the club's history.
Today, 24 years later, the Corinthian fans remember with pride and emotion this unforgettable moment that raised the Corinthians to the top of world football.
