The board of directors of Corinthians is looking at hiring Uruguayan side-right Martirena, one of the major highlights of Racing (ARG) in South American 2024.
Martirena also scored one of Racing's goals in the 2–2 draw in front of the Corinthians in the round-up of the South American semi-final at the Neo Química Arena.
"An information. The Martirena side is in Corinthians' sights. Yesterday they gave me the information, but there are other clubs behind Martirena", says journalist Leandro Quesada.
Gastón Nicolás Martirena Torres, a 24-year-old Uruguayan side-right, has excelled at the Racing Club since his arrival on July 31, 2023. With contract until December 2027, the player maintains a market value of 3 million euros.
Born in Montevideo, Martirena has played 46 matches for Racing Club, scoring six goals and seven assists.
In the current season of the Superliga Argentina and the South American Cup, he participated in nine of the 12 possible games, contributing with two goals. With a 58% play rate as a holder, he is a key player in the team's defense.
The athlete, who can also play as a mid-right, began his career at Liverpool FC Montevideo, where he accumulated 91 games and eight goals.
