Balbuena

Paraguayan Fabián Balbuena reached the age of 24 in the Corinthians in 2016, coming from Libertad for 1.4 million euros. Em 2000, para uma temporada que teria de cara um Mundial de Clubes, e em um timaço que era bicampeão do Campeonato Brasileiro, o Corinthians apostou na contratação do zagueiro Fábio Luciano, que defendia a Ponte Preta e tinha apenas 25 anos. Mesmo assim, foi escolhido para formar a zaga titular no Mundial.

E seguiu conquistando títulos. Foi campeão e um dos líderes no Paulista de 2001, no Rio-São Paulo e Copa do Brasil de 2002 e no estadual de 2003. No mesmo ano, foi vendido por 6 milhões de euros para o Fenerbahçe, onde foi bicampeão turco. Na época, foi uma das maiores transferências do futebol brasileiro.

Ainda jogou no Flamengo antes de encerrar a carreira, mas sempre revelou identificação maior com o Timão. Revelado no Cerro Porteño, Gamarra já havia sido campeão gaúcho pelo Internacional e estava jogando no Benfica. Era ainda titular e líder da zaga da Seleção Paraguaia.

Gamarra chamou a atenção pela qualidade e desarmes sem fazer faltas, além do refino técnico. Elevou o futebol do Timão, que terminou o ano vencendo o Campeonato Brasileiro. Além disso, na Copa do Mundo, o paraguaio foi eleito o melhor zagueiro da competição, levando o seu país até as oitavas de final do torneio.

No ano seguinte, em 1999, foi campeão do Campeonato Paulista em cima do Palmeiras. Sob muitos holofotes e em busca de sucesso na Europa, foi vendido para o Atlético de Madrid na mesma temporada. Depois ainda jogou por Flamengo, Inter de Milão, Palmeiras e Olimpia, sem repetir o sucesso do nível que teve no Timão.

Gil

Em 2013, o Corinthians fazia uma janela de transferências pontual. Campeão da Libertadores e Bi Mundial, o Timão trouxe três grandes nomes para posições diferentes. O da defesa era Gil, que brilhou no Cruzeiro e jogava no Valenciennes da França. O Coringão desembolsou 3,5 milhões de euros para trazer o defensor.
