E o confronto se repetiu na semifinal do Campeonato Brasileiro, em que o Timão buscava o bicampeonato. E no jogo de ida o Coringão sacramentou a classificação ao vencer por 3 a 2 no Morumbi.
Apesar do ataque eficiente, o destaque do jogo foi o goleiro Dida, que pegou dois pênaltis de Raí, camisa 10 e craque do São Paulo, em um intervalo de trinta minutos – o segundo já nos acréscimos. O meia do rival resolveu mudar o lado da cobrança na segunda penalidade, mas Dida fez o mesmo e pegou de novo.
Freguesia estadual, regional e nacional
Em dois anos, o Corinthians reforçou a freguesia estadual, regional e nacional contra o São Paulo. Tudo começou em 2002, com o título do Rio-São Paulo, após vitória na ida por 3 a 2 com gols de Deivid, Leandro e Gil, e empate na volta por 1 a 1 com gol anotado por Rogério.
O caminho das equipes se cruzaram de novo na temporada na semifinal da Copa do Brasil. E o Timão resolveu na ida outra vez, com vitória por 2 a 0, gols de Deivid. Na final, o Corinthians derrotou o Brasiliense.
No ano seguinte, em 2003, o Coringão terminou a freguesia do biênio com o título do Paulista de 2003 sobre o São Paulo. Na ida, 3 a 2 Corinthians, com gols de Rogério, Fábio Luciano e Gil. Na volta, o mesmo placar, mas com gols de Liédson e Jorge Wagner (duas vezes).
Show de Ronaldo e Cristian
Em 2009, o Corinthians que acabava de vencer a Série B do Brasileiro apostava em um Ronaldo Fenômeno em fim da carreira e enfrentava o São Paulo tricampeão brasileiro na semifinal do Paulista. Mas no jogo de ida, quem brilhou foi Cristian, com golaço de fora da área no fim garantindo o 2 a 1 (Elias fez o primeiro).
No jogo de volta, Douglas fez o primeiro e Ronaldo decidiu e matou o jogo com gol após uma arrancada.
Os dois últimos títulos
O Corinthians venceu também as duas últimas finais entre as equipes. A primeira foi em 2013, ano em que já havia eliminado o São Paulo nos pênaltis na semifinal do Paulista que foi campeão. Mas a temporada ainda reservava o título da Recopa Sul-Americana, com direito a gol de cobertura de Renato Augusto na vitória por 2 a 1 na ida – Guerrero havia feito o primeiro. Na volta, 2 a 0 Timão, com Danilo e Romarinho.
E a última decisão foi no Campeonato Paulista de 2019. Após jogo de ida sem gols no Morumbi, a partida decisiva aconteceu na Neo Química Arena. Danilo Avelar abriu o placar no primeiro tempo, mas o São Paulo empatou. O jogo parecia ir para os pênaltis, mas nos minutos finais, Vágner Love marcou o gol do título.
